Highmountain Lake Kel-Suu created by the earthquake.
Kel-Suu is one of the little-known but beautiful lakes in Kyrgyzstan. It is located at an altitude of more than 3 thousand meters above sea level in an inaccessible area in the Kokshaal-Too mountains, near the border with China. The lake is 12 kilometers long, in the northern part it is completely surrounded by high cliffs, walks around the lake are limited. Due to the cold climate, the period of visiting the lake is very short: from the middle of July to mid-August.
The water level in the lake is changing. Sometimes, in the middle of a season, the lake may not have water at all. Then you get a rare opportunity to explore the grottoes and caves that opened in the rocks.
To visit the lake Kel-Suu you need to have a border pass. You will go through two frontier posts. Therefore, in advance you need to contact any travel agency in Kyrgyzstan to obtain a pass. This can also be done in Naryn at CBT Naryn.
The road to Kel-Suu Lake is long and is not easy. Using bicycle to reach Kel-Suu Lake you will get unforgettable impressions.
In a small valley near the lake there are tourist camps where you can have a rest, spend the night, leave your bikes and stuff to take a walk on the lake and explore the surroundings.
