Where to Find GPX Routes for Bikepacking in Kyrgyzstan

Bikepacking in the mountains of Kyrgyzstan means freedom: minimal asphalt and a maximum of wild valleys and high passes.

To avoid getting lost and to understand the terrain in advance, a GPX track becomes your main tool – it shows the route on your GPS device or smartphone, even when you are offline.

On this page we've collected where to find GPX tracks for Kyrgyzstan and how FreeBike.kg supports our riders with routes.

3. Which Apps to Use for GPX

No matter where you download your GPX track, you need to upload it to your GPS device or app.

In practice, bikepackers in Kyrgyzstan most often use:

  • Garmin / Wahoo – upload the track via the official apps or website.
  • Smartphone (Android / iOS):
    • Komoot
    • Ride with GPS
    • OsmAnd
    • Locus Map

We recommend:

  1. Duplicating the track: keep the GPX both on your GPS unit and on your phone.
  2. Downloading offline maps in advance.
  3. Taking a powerbank or dynamo hub for charging.

4. Important Safety and Responsibility Notes

  • A GPX file does not guarantee that the route is passable: in the mountains there can be snow, washed-out roads, rockfall or closed areas.
  • Always check the weather, the condition of passes and local restrictions (border zones, protected areas).
  • Carry extra water and food, especially on sections between Naryn, At-Bashi and remote valleys.

We recommend:

  • Planning routes according to your experience, fitness and the season.
  • Avoiding difficult high passes alone if you have no high-altitude experience.
  • Always leaving your route and approximate schedule with someone who stays in the city.
